Omid, the Last White Crane

CHARACTERS Theatre @characters.az and Fluxus Space Art Gallery @fluxusspace present the performance “Omid, the Last White Crane”, staged based on the play of the same name by Ismayil Iman.

The performance is based on the real-life story of Omid, the last representative of the western population of the white crane. Listed in the Red Book of Azerbaijan, Omid made solitary flights for more than 15 years from Siberia to the southern shores of the Caspian Sea. Over the past two years, he has not been observed either in his wintering grounds or along migration routes. It is highly likely that Omid has perished, and with him, an entire migratory lineage may have come to an end…

“Omid, the Last White Crane” is a story told in poetic language about the last crane and a disappearing migration route. Through the use of live music, director Mikayil Merdinli creates a space where the bird transforms into a mythological being, and its path becomes an eternal, unlost trace. Because Omid is not just a bird. Omid is hope.
